Antique Miscellaneous Tractor: Rock Island G-2

[Return to the Shed]

This 15-25 "G-2" model began production in 1929 and was the same basic design as the 18-35. It weighed 4,200 pounds and used a Waukesha 4-cylinder engine. Production ended with the sale of the company to J.I. Case in 1937.

  • My Dad bought a Rock Island new in 1933. We sold it to a collector in the family in about 1980. It still ran and I recall using it once in about 1958 to pull one of our other tractors out of a mudhole. I recently heard that it has been totally restored and is in Indiana. I think I may still have some parts for it. Possibly a carburetor and magneto.

  • I m in the process of restoring the family 1929 15-25. It has t been running in 25 years. The clutch is seized on it, we ve been soaking and turning and it still won t break loose, does anyone have any ideas short of tearing the tractor apart I m also looking for front steel wheels and a front end or specs to fabricate one, it currently has an international front end. As always, any help is appreciated.

  • My father in-law has a Rock Island model G, not a G-2. I believe it was built in either 27 or 28. It has the Waukesha engine that is cradled in engine frame rails. I have done a bit of research on this model and I get the impression that the G model is extremely rare. Does anyone out there have an estimate on the value of this tractor It has not run in a long time and needs complete restoration, but the entire tractor is complete minus the magneto on the engine. Otherwise nothing is missing.

  • I have finally about completed the restoration on my Rock Island G-2, All I have left to do is to convert my front wheels back to steel and paint them. My rear wheels were cut down and converted to rubber but I found that older John Deer "D" wheels fit right on and are the same, not so on the front. The ser.# on mine is 100085 can anyone give any insight on that. The gentelman I bought the tractor from told me that it is a 1930.

  • Does anyone out there have a picture(s) of the Rock Island F and FA? They had a bore and strokc of 4 1/2 by 6 inches whereas the G-2 had a 4 1/4 by 5 1/4; good replacements for the old Steam Power Tractors....My father (Pa Wolf)owned one of the last G-2's made before Case bought the RI. Great tractors for their day; J.I.Case was a worthy successor for them.....the old L and LA Cases remined me of the R.I.'s....

What year is it and it's value. I have also found another Rock Island that is stuck and looks to be complete. What would be a fair price to offer the owner? Please contact by e-mail bruce.jedwabny at svedala.com
