This picture is a 1933 version. The tractor first appeared in 1932 (only 25 were built the first year). The earlier models had a single front wheel, later models had duel front wheels or wide-fronts.

I hope some on can help me. My friend in Ill. has a Masey- Harris 20. The engine is a Hercules UI think 1XB. It has a p.t.o. on the left and the govenor driven from a double gear. He can t seem to get the govenor to work.I haven t seen the tractor but what hes says it has to be a Hurcules engine with an updraft carb.on the left side.I do not have any repair manuals and he says he does. He has been looking high and low for a replacement govenor but hasen t found one yet. Because he has stated the P.T.O. and govenor are being run of of the same gears I wonder if the have a special setup and he has the wrong type.Any help from the group would be better than none. i am looking at a F-12 for sale it is in good shape it has the single rubber tire in the front steel in the rear the guy said it ran 5 years ago but i cannot turn it over with the crank not sure if it would free up with some penetrating fluid or if would have to come apart of course i woul have to plan on taking it apart if i did not then i got lucky but he wanted 2500 since it wont turn over he wants 2000 i think that is too much am i correct

My father just purchased another F-12 to restore. The serial number indicates that it is a 35 however, the block does not have the serial number stamped on it. Another odd thing about the block, casted into it is 8-20-P above 1808D I believe it is. Anybody have an idea what that indicates? The 3 other F-12 blocks he has have no such casting in the block except for the 1808D. Thank you for any info.

I have been working on a 1938 F-12. Today I got the brakes repaired and now will continue on the rear end. I do need a seat as the old one is in bad shape. Will try to repair it if I can't find one. I restored a 1937 F-12 with fenders, round spoke front and rear wheels, and a hydraulic lift under the seat. I even put NEW tires on it. It starts on the first or second crank and the hydraulic lift works too. I grew up using this tractor to feed beef cattle hay every morning. I would take off my belt and tie the steering wheel to the seat in a slight turn and then get in the wagon and toss out the hay as the sun came up. My stepfather paid $35.00 for this tractor. It now looks as new as a 1937 tractor can look.

Our first tractor was a F 12 boought used an 1944 while I was in high school. On steel narrow rear rims with big lugs and row crop front wheels. I remember plowing with a 2 bottom plow nd when you would hit a hard spot and the furrow wheel would spin part of a round the draw bar would hit the ground andI would have to unhitch,dig under the draw bar, hook a chain to the plow,pull out to one side, rehook and go again. We farmed a little over 100 acres with it. Dad loved horses and would brake colts I had to do a lot of begging to get him to buy that first tractor. Riding in the F 12 was a lot better than riding behind a team of horses on a sulky plow.

I have acquired a 1938 F-12 with the hydraulic option. It is on rubber and the back tires even still hold air. It seems to be complete even down to the crank. I drove a F-12 from 1040 to 1949. Not sure of the year it was but it wasn't red. Couple unique features. We cut the steering wheel shaft off just behind the gear box, put a U joint in it and raised the wheel about 6 inches. We also had a spring-shock absorber seat on it. Anyone came across it?

I just wrote a few words about the F-14. Spent hundreds of hours on 3 F-12s between 1939 and 1969. Incredibly sturdy machine. Its only problem was the fuel pump, and that only after a good many years of use. Fuel pump diaphragms back then didn't last forever. I think IHC thought they'd get a little more power from a downdraft carburetor, hence the need for a fuel pump. The F-12 on steel was a pretty anemic device, but rubber tires transformed it! We routinely pulled 2 12" bottoms, or a 7' disk double disk harrow, both in second gear. The 7' disk was bought originally to be pulled by a 10-20, so the little F-12 had a big heart. It was pulling at its limit, but I never saw any sign that we did any damage. The gears were huge for the horsepower transmitted; maybe that's why there was never any transmission trouble. The engine was very modern for 1932--full-pressure lubrication + an oil filter.

We farmed 100 acres with an F-12 back in 1949-1952. I was 11 then and did plowing with 2-14" plows and cultivated with the 2 row cultivator, it was all I could do to work the lift lever. The tractor was mounted on rubber with 11.00" X 40" nobby's on the rear with one single in the front. It was somthing to stop as it had hand brakes so when you had to stop it you had to take your hands off the stearing wheel. It was nice for making sharp turns though because the front wheel would apply them auotomaticly. This brings back a lot of memories of my boyhood days around Clearwater, Minnesota

I own a 1934 and a 1937 model f-12 I have the narrow front steel wheels if someone needs them make offer. Also I have one good brake cover, one good radiator, a fuel pump that needs a diaphram, and possibly a camshaft and main bearing cap. I am in need of a hand crank, complete mag assy. and an exhaust flange to attatch muffler to the exhaust manifold. My dad is restoring a McCormick-Deering 10-20, and I had done quite a bit of research on the paint. I believe the F-12 uses the same colors. For the red on the wheels, use IHC 5150 and for the gray use DuPont Centari 27625 (or the number might have been 27635, whichever is called charcoal gray, I lost the receipt and I'm going off my notes).
