If the 3 point or hydralics fail it probably a clogged wire mesh transmission filter. I am now retired and would be interested in selling this tractor; does anyone have suggested starting price. The 2010 s were not junk. They have the handiest PTO, and the shift was the only JD Synchro with a 1-2, 3-4, etc shift. All others were 1-3, 2-5, 4-7 and 6-8. I am probably preaching to the choir as you all knew that. If I don t sell the tractor I want to rebuild the transmission any ideas. Holt, Smith Center, Ks

  • RANDY - repairing the rim can be fairly easy or very difficult, depending on where your hole s are. I think the BEST thing to do is to cut a patch from a piece of scrap metal - slightly larger than the hole you mentioned AND the same thickness as the original rim. Weld the patch inside the hole and then fill the depression on the outside with bondo. A little careful work should produce good results. Oh yeah, the welder of choice in this situation would be a MIG welder. FredT

  • I have a 1961 2010 that I bought about 5 years ago and I don't know who the idiot is that said this was the black sheep of the family- it has performed every job I set before it, from cutting with a J.D. #37 9ft. sickle mower to raking to baling with a N.H. 847 round baler. This tractor also has a farmhand F-10 loader that has a grapple fork attached and I use it for feeding in the winter because it starts better than my 3020 or my 4010 diesels. I would also like to mention that it starts in any weather and believe me Manitoba winters are damn cold. The tractor is all original and restored with nothing more than a coat of paint- the guy I bought it from only used it in the farmhand making loose hay since he bought it new. This is one great tractor and I absolutely love it.

I would appreciate any infoe concerning this. i am getting ready to tear into the pump assembly, any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Tractor starts and runs very good and the loader and back hoe also work. Since this is kind of a collectors item I hate to use it all the time around the hobby farm. Would like to find someone interested in bying it. Wondering how much this one owner tractor would be worth to a collector ? It is built like a rock and when you look at it you know you are looking at a piece of history and not some junk. It is painted yellow which is not the original color.

It was driven and parked behind the barn 2 years ago to wait for help. Well here I am, and I tried to pull it out today with a larger tractor and found that the right rear wheel is locked up whether you hold the clutch down or shift it through the gears. The left rear wheel rotates fine. Is this a stuck or frozen transmission or could it be the brakes may have froze up on the right side? We tried to pull it forward and backward to try to break the wheel loose with no results except a lot of torn up sod. This tractor needs my help and I need yours. Please help if you have any info or ideas. The serial number of the engine tag is 2010RU14398 if that helps.....

  • What a great site. My wife and I own a 1960 2010 with a narrow front end. I should say my wife owns it. When she and her ex-husband split up, he got the washer and drier and she got the tractor. She absolutly loves it and even calls it "Big John". It was the primary tractor on our small horse farm doing everything from spreading manure and mowing hay to clearing snow and bush hogging. It lost oil pressure in the fall of 2003 so I decided it was time to finally overhaul the engine. I'm having a little trouble finding parts and everything, if available, has to be special ordered. It seems that the engine is unique to the 1010 and 2010 only. The latest problem was finding the engine sleeves. Only the 2010 has the sleeves and the top engine plate as one assembly. I finally found one in Michigan from a dealer who had one for years by mistake. I hope this is the last roadblock to getting the tractor back together because spring is coming and I need it to do hay! Although I've had my problems with it, I chalk them up to age more than poor design. I think it's a great tractor and fills our needs better than any of the more popular small Fords or IHs.

  • for Peter Howie; I can'thelp with a cylinder head but will pass along this info. The heads usually crack between the turbulence chambers because of heat buildup before the thermostat opens. This can be corrected by removing the bypass hose fittings at the thermostat housing and the water pump and carefully drilling them out to 11/32". (Both ends of the elbow from the thermostat housing have to be drilled out.) This allows the head and block to heat more evenly and prevents a slug of cold water from getting to the head and cracking it.

  • I bought my 2010 15 years ago, It's a row crop wide front, that has been a good friend way late at night haying, to early in the morning removing snow with it's loader. The neighbors LOVE it too!

  • I have a 2010 Diesel. Used it for baling hay. Runs great but have heard from many farmers that the 2010 is the worst tractor that John Deere has built. Is there any truth to this? Or are they talking about the commercial model?

  • I have used a John Deere 2010 a wide front end. As a youth on the family farm. We used it for haying also everything else that we did on the family farm. It was a superb tractor, did everything we asked of it. I currently own the smaller John Deere 1010,farm is no longer in production.I use the tractor mainly for Bush hoging, and dragging in timber
