Antique Allis Chalmers Tractor: AC D12

[Allis Chalmers D12 Parts]     [Return to the Shed]

The D12 went into production in May of 1959 and were meant to replace the Model B and CA with new D-Series style, more power and new features. The increased power, independent PTO along with hitch and hydraulic improvements made it a very popular tractor.

  • Hey, that D12 looks very much like much like my dad's. It's a '61 and he bought it back in the early '70's and he still uses it. It has a front end loader with a cable released barn bucket, a three bottom plow, and disc. He modified a New Holland rototiller to fit and built a post hole auger for it. it's also pulled a few John Deere hay bailers in it's time too. It's a great little tractor, and I operated it quite often when pulling trailers or moving stuff around our small farm. I wouldn't mind owing it myself to use on my friends' farms. Maybe one day I will.

  • I have an early D-12 and am attempting to set the timing, but am confused by the marks on the flywheel One appears to be "I R E", the second "ENTER" and the last as "F-25" anyone have any answers? We have lost one starter already and would like to avoid losing another.
RMD wrote on Thursday, June 10, 1999 (PDT):
  • Some corrections to the description. The D-12 replaced the CA in AC line-up; the D-10 replaced the B. The only difference between the two was the width - the D-10 was for one row cultivation and the D-12 was for two rows. The design is very heavily based on the CA. The early D-10/12 did not have independent PTO and may or may not have had independent hydraulics. Production changes in 1961 or 1962 brought more power (30 HP), independent PTO and independent hydraulics on all D-10/12. At that point they became probably one of the best 2WD 30 HP general purpose tractors made. I have a 63 D-12 and it would be perfect if it had power steering and a differential lock.
