At some point in time a prior owner converted the electrical system from 6 voltd to 12 volts. Now the electrical system is driving me crazy. I have replaced the coil twice, the on/off switch and the starter switch. Now I'm trying to replace the alternator, but I haven't been able to figure out what manufacturer or car type the current alternator is. If anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to hear from you. Terry p.s. I would consider a trade for a Ford 8N in comparable condition.

I thought it would be a fun project to bring the old gal back to life. Only took a few hours to get it running but had to break the tractor in half to unfreeze the clutch. After fixing the clutch, I started cleaning and repainting. I also had to have the hydraulics overhauled due to pitting and leaking around the shaft. I finished the project in time to run it in the local 4th of July parade. Pulled a wagon full of cub scouts. Henry, you seem to be the Leader King. It pulls my dads camper around in all gears, so for the size of the engine it does ok. I am almost 14. I got it because my mom previously passed away from Stomache Cancer, and i wanted a project to work on to take my mind off things. It does the trick. • I bought a Leader for 375.00 and a old shotgun. It is in fairly good shape.I would like to restore it.It looks a lot like the one in the picture, however I have found three others in a junk yard and not one of them are the same. The transmissions, steering boxes, hoods, seats, hydraulics and other things are all differant. It took me a while to find the dip stick because it was hid behind some oil lines.I have not been able to find a serial# or model# anywhere on this tractor. Can anyone tell me where to look?I would like to purchase a manual if there is one available.

  • hi there leader fans. I have a leader tractor, bought in late fourties. paid 800. new from a warehouse in cleveland ohiio. Must have been a thousand in that building. Over the yearss was used for farming, rebuilt several times. broke a rear axel one time then I broke a gear shift lever.went to a small job shop. a retired fellow, who worked on a lath most of his life. made what I wanted, was eactly what I wanted. You might try someone like him. I do have a manual, doesnt tell much (if instered) for others who are looking for motors the hericules motor was used by many county and town highway departments, also muck farmers used them on the muck farms. I have many old timers say ( you nan't kill a hericules. they just get old & run llike new. I think this was a very good motor for the leader. I also came across a place where you can get parts for the hericlues (if instereted) as for the gear box or rear end of the leader, go to a good job shop, you might have to pay a litle, but its worth it. I wold give, sell or trade my leader for anything, its part of the family ( later )!!!!e-mail( lasf at eznet.net )

  • grandpa, I bought bought a Leader for $75. b/c I thought it might be worth soemthing b/c I have never seen one. Come to find out they are hard to find but not really worth anything that much. It just wasn't a big name in the tractor business I guess. I have seen some sell on the internet for $400-$600 maybe a little more. I'm not real sure. But you can always say you have something that not to many other people have. If you know where some parts can be located for one please let me know. Good luck.
