Late Ferguson - Ferguson Spanner

[Return to Photos]

Late Ferguson - Ferguson Spanner - The Ferguson Spanner (Plow Wrench)was originally conceived, designed, and produced by Harry Ferguson and first issued with the 1936 Ferguson-Brown Type A tractor. The wrench was 10' long, because that was the size of a plow furrow, had open sizes of 1-1/16' and 11/16' to fit the two most commenest bolt and nut sizes on the tractor and plow, had inch hash marks in raised form and the 3 and 6 pronounced. In 1938, Henry Ford and Harry Ferguson sealed an agreement with a handshake to produce the 9N tractor together, where the tool was carried over and issued the Ford part number, 9N17014. In 1946, the partnership was dissolved and Harry went on to Coventry to prouce his own tractor, the TE20,based on blueprints for the Ford 9N Tractor, with changes made by Harry. Harry then produced the TO20 in Detroit and issued the wrench as p/n TO17014. Since, other clones have been issued. This picture is shown with the tool in package, marked Harry Ferguson, Coventry, England, and supposedly is still available from MF/AGCO dealers under AGCO part number 827436M1, though attempts in the US to locate one has turned up empty.
