  • I drove this tractor in the mid 1930s. As I recall it was purchased in 1929 and was a 20-35. I plowed with a four bottom plow and in thr spring when it was cold I would put the right front wheel in the plow furrow and then walk to the end of the field to keep warm. Then I would get on the tractor, turn it around and get off and walk again. At least 10 miles in the morning and again in the afternoon. This was training for my later time in the United States Army Infantry. My family owned this tractor until 1940. farming in north central SD.

  • The allis 20-35 is truely a magnificent machine. It is by far my favorite model ot the Allis-Chalmers Line. Hopefully one day i will be lucky enough to add one to my collection. Due to the fact that i am younger and some models are costly i think i'm going to have to stick to my B, WC and CA

  • My grandfather had an allis chalmers (probably the size of a WD-40). It had steel wheels in the rear and rubber in the front. It had a crank startand he used it at his summer cottage on an island to run a saw mill and to pull trees out of the woods. I was wandering if someone could guess the aprox. year and model. Thanks Brent B. St. Anne,Illinois

  • I USED ONE FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. FOUND IT TO BE A GAS EATER. POORLY DESIGNED AS IT WAS FRONT HEAVY AND TOOK MOST OF IT'S POWER TO PUSH THROUGH SOFT GROUND AND UP SANDY HILLS. REAR WHEEL DRUM GEARS NEEDED CONSTANT CLEANING AS SEALS WERE POORLY DESIGNED WITH LOOSELY FITTED ROLLER BEARINGS. TOOK SEVERAL TURNS OF THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN THE TRACTOR AROUND. IT SURE DONE A GOOD JOB ON MY MEMORY OF IT.

  • I grew up on Allis Chalmers tractors. The WC and WD. Now I have a collection of over 180 tractors of every sort. Although I like them all, my favorate and the one responsible for my collection beginning is my 1930 20-35. I have run it in many parades and it has never quit or been hard to start. It is all orginal and on steel. I usally make a U-turn in the middle of the street during parades and have never seemed to lack for room to turn. I live in the Black Hills of S.D. near Custer. In the summer lots of travlers stop to look at my collection that I have lined up around my place. No charge and nothing to sell. If anyone is ever in this area stop in.

  • My father and I have 2 20-35's, in varying stages of restoration. A comment on the "easy" steering... We had just gotten the latest acquisition running a few years ago, and wanted to try it out at a plowing demo. Didn't bother to check out the steering, which seemed a bit heavy but worked. Made one pass with a 3 bottom plow, cranked it off hard to turn at the end, where the steering promptly locked. Made a complete 360 degree loop before giving up reefing on the wheel, and threw the clutch. unhooked, and finally freed the steering, then just parked it for the day. Not a very great first impression! Greasing the linkage and the gearbox have helped, but it's still a brute to steer! FUN

  • The 20/35 takes two men and a mule to turn. Rides rough. There is nothing more fun to operate!
