  • In response to BRETT 2007 Oct. 18 and 2007 Dec. 13 In June 2008 I did buy a Field Marshall Series III, most probably see below a Series IIIA but a green one . I am living in The Netherlands. My name in English should be pronounces as about Case Ryzebol. There are three identical S/N s 15908; 1. As the final information on the oblique or inclined dash plate with warnings on it between the left mud or wheel gard and the fuel tank . 2. Somewhere above the pulley. 3. A cast number on top just aft of the cap to add water or cooling fluid. I did find the following information on Internet; Field Marshall Series 3A serial no. 15207 onwards Spares List p/copy, 86 pages. From this I concluded that Series IIIA are from that S/N. Above Jim Wheale 2005 Dec. 13 wrote that Series III with S/N #0075 is the 75th Series III. It might be 10075, because of all other S/N s I have seen on Internet.

  • Sorry about that double entry. We used to fill a primed 12-ga. shotgun shell with coarse black powder and stick some tape over the end for a starter. The fuses can be made of rolled-up thin paper that was soaked in a thick saltpeter brine. Don't soak it too long or it will fall apart before it dries.

Marshall had a contest in the 50's to guess how long , my cousins had a new one, so they warmed it up, measured out one gallon of fuel, and left it idle. 72 hours later(!!) one of them shut it down so he could get some sleep! They guessed 80 hours on a gallon, and were short!

This was to accomodate for the extra bull gear in the final drives ! Happy starting, and it does not matter if the engine runs backwards for a minute or two, but no longer as the lubricator will not work ! Hope this will have helped you.
