Shortly after August, 1940 my parents moved to a Texas farm where I learned to drive at age nine 9 . The tractor was a Model L or possibly a Model C . I could stop it by pulling the clutch lever back. To drive forward, I had to just hold the clutch lever forward so I could not drive it in the field. I was not big enough to push the clutch lever forward to lock it in place. My frist accident also involved the Model L. I hit a steel gate post in third gear, I think with the left front wheel. The front axle bent back about 6 or so inches. My Dad had to pay 2.50 to have the axle heated and straightened out. My excuse; the steering gears were so worn that one had to turn the steering a full turn to start going the other direction. I do not recall getting a spanking after the wreck, so my excuse must have worked. Thanks for the Memories......BJ

My dad had two 1929 case tractors one with rubber tires and one with steel.I drove both of them plowing,spraying fruit trees,pulling out trees and all kinds of other things.these were great tractors, you could never over work these tractors believe me i tried . use to start them up on gas put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator when the water started to boil then I would change over to kerosine and run all day long.DON'T know what happen to them they were parked behind the barn when my dad passed away about 18 years ago.reading all these comments brings back memories and the good old times. My father farmed 160 acers of Ohio clay with one of these and I can remember like it was yesterday , sleeping in the fender well like place on the backside of the fender. It was slanted and made a good bed for a 6 year old boy!! Also remember when the seat got to hard, dad would set the wheels in the furrow with the 3 bottom plow in the ground and get off & walk along side it while it went down through the field plowing along. L that my dad bought after they bought a I H model H we used that tractor for years and it was on steele , then dad sold it to a man from WATERLOO IN. by the name of HARRY SCHIFFLI and he put on big rubber he also had a CASE model C and a CASE model R C and farmed with these tractors until i think in the 70s and had an auction and sold everything and moved to Waterloo , if any one has any info on this I would sure like to hear from them , either by e-mail or by phone call collect to 260-627-2491 thanks VIRG

I remember as a boy of about7 or 8 of being with my dad as he plowed with a model 'L' on our farm in Ohio. AsI remember ,he pulled a 3bottom, 14inch plow with it in clay ground. Many times when he got tired, he would put the wheels in the furrow and get off and walked along side the old Case as it "drove" itself down the furrow. Not a real good idea, but at the time we never gave it much thought. It never did get away from him though!

I have a 1930 that looks exactly like this one except mine has spokes in the rear wheels. My love for the L and LA was born one day about 1950 when I was about 10 years old. In eastern Ks where dad farmed the farms were small and the biggest tractors were DC's, M's, WD's,A's,88's. A neighbor had a son farming in western Ks where farms were big. They hauled an LA from western Ks to our small farm community to do some heavy tillage. One of my lasting impression is hearing "something" coming up the road that was definitely louder and different than the usual tractor. As it passed our house, it was the biggest, most awesome tractor I had ever seen and it was towing a great big one-way plow. I ran down the road to the field where the LA was working. After following it through the field on foot for I don't remember how long, I was invited to ride on it. For a poor farm boy, life didn't get any better than that!!!

In the early 30's a Case dealer was demostrating the model L . He had the l and a 22-36 IH both pulling 3 bottoms. They then put both plows behind the L ( 6 bottoms) it pulled them! I suppose in low gear. Anyway it made quite an impression. This was in Cazenovia, Mn. I have a 29 L. what a power house! It's nearly impossible to kill the motor! Ilove doing belt and plowing with it. The size of the engine parts (rods,valves ect. ) is amazing.

My Grandfather used to work on Case and Allis Chalmers tractors when I was still in diapers, he passed away before I had the chance to get aquainted with him, When I was deciding what to do in my high school ag class four years ago I obtained my father's permission to restore a 1929 L that was passed down from my Grandfather. I spent a little over a year on it and when I finished I had a nice looking tractor with a solid oak floor that was done for amusement purposes and a nice way to pay tribute to the Grandfather that I never had the chance to get to know. When this project was completed, I continued on with a 37 CC and a 50 DC. What a great way to get in touch with the past.

When I was growing up on our farm at Dauphin Manitoba Canada my Dad had one of these on steel wheels, he also later got a model LA, we also had a model S case. Both my brother and I have driven these. I'am now in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in British Columbia Canada, and often recall those days growing up on the farm. I met one of my fathers old Hired Men, he told me that when the model L case was new, my dad and the Hiredman "Reg" used 450 , 45 gal of fuel in one year, the tractor was worked around the clock. with a lantern hung on the front for night. If you have any models of these three i would like to send one to my brother Clark who still lives onthe farm in Dauphin Manitoba

I just purchased at auction a 1932 Case L s/n 302582. Don't know yet if it's sound or not. Will be trying to start it next weekend at Dalton, MN threshing show. Giving it new plugs and wires. Has cut-off wheels and tires. Spent it's working life in Manitoba. Missing seat and seat spring. Bought it as-is. Spent less than I would want to go up and haul it back, having done that once before. My first impression is that it's a solid, honest looking design. So much so, that you could call it nondescript. Purely functional. Kind of like a military truck. Only other I remember nearby was at Grand Rapids, MN threshing show. I also have an RC Case s/n 4404848. Now, there you have style and distinction.

My father owned a "K" prior to buying a model "L" in 1937. he drove to Indianapolis to pick it up. My brother finally traded it off to a Case dealer for a quick hitch to go on our 1370. The dealer really wanted the old L. The dealer is now out of business but still has the tractor minus the front end. We've also owned a CC, DC, 300, 400, 1030, 1070 and 1370. I still have the 300 (1956 GD 157 Diesel) and the 1070. If anyone can help me find a water pump for the 300 I really would appreciate it. Parts are scarce because it had the GD 157 Continental engine. The patents ran out years ago. Please call me at 270-333-2458 after 6;00pm if you have this part or know where I can get it.. I'll gladly pay for the call.

I have a 1929 L that was one of the first two 1929 L's sold in Cheyenne Co. NE.It was bought by my Grandfather, than my Dad and than me. 1929 L was the first yr. for oilbath Clutch coupled to a Chain final drive, I also own a 1966 930 Comfort King, the last year Case made a oilbath Clutch coupled to a Chain final drive.

I just purchased a house with 5 acres, and with it came a '30 L Case. I have alot of experence with cars, but this is my first tractor, & I love it! The last time I drove it to mow it started blowing water out of what looked like the water pump. If it were a car I'd say the the water pump bearing was shot & it needed a new water pump. I know this probably sounds like a dumb question - but is that what's wrong with the Case? Any info., tips, advice would be very appreciated!

My Father & Grandfather purchased the J.I. Case Dealership in Kimball, Ne. in 1935. I grew up on Case tractors and other Case machinery. Spent much time, in my high school days, setting up machinery for delivery etc. We also had a farm and ranch operation. I have plowed many acres with the Model L and four (4) bottom plow. In 1947 or 48, we had the Case Co's. protype self propelled combine on our farm. There were many changes made, at that time, to the mobilization portion. Could go on and on. Those were the good-ol-days. I've been surching a long time to find an organization such as yours.

My dad purchased a 1928 L about 1955. It had been used to run a sawmill and was converted to rubber for our use. We were never able to stall the tractor with equipment but with the low clearance, we did hang it a few times. the tractor was sold for use in the wood to lumber dealer. I own a 1937 Case L that was originally purchased new by my paternal grandfather and used on the family farm in upstate SC until 1979. It has been sitting under a shed since. I've contacted a gentleman (heavy equipment mechanic by trade) who tinkers with antique tractors. He's briefly checked it and turned over the crank and said, "That old dog's got lots of fire." We plan to add new oil, gas, water, and fire it up. (It ran great the last time it was used in 1979 to run a hammer-mill to grind corn and grain for cow feed.) If she fires up and runs, I'll buy new tires and consider moderate restoration. Anyone have any suggestions for what to or not to do. Thanks.
