The WC was the first highly successful tractor. During development it was simply called the Model W. When it went public in 1933 it was called the Model W All-Crop and by 1934 had the final name of Model WC. More than 178,000 WC's were purchased by farmers between 1933 and 1948. |

Steve Sorrells wrote on Saturday, October 05, 2013 (PDT):In the late 50 s when I was 11 or 12 Daddy had a Allis Chalmers CA a WC. After I learned to drive, he would pull a JD 4 disc tiller with the WC and I would pull one with the CA to turn land. When I got a little older I would turn land with the WC while Daddy worked a public job. I remember the WC had hand brakes only, the seat was off center to the right and the tiller had a manual lift so when you turned to the left you would reach back and grab the rope to trip the tiller lift while turning the steering wheel to the left. This would throw you even further to the right away from the left brake handle. You would have to really stretch to reach the brake lever to help with the turn. Quite a struggle for a 13 or 14 year old kid. I thought I was in heaven in 61 when he traded both in on a new JD 2010 with power steering and hydraulic connections so we could use a hydraulic cylinder lift.

He bought them new and had 3 AC combines behind them. This was the first combine in Ste. Genevieve county Mo.. Dad used them to do custom work for years. Dad lived in Minnith Mo. LancasterPA Jon wrote on Friday, June 09, 2006 (PDT):AC's are in my blood line; Grandpa (pronounced Gram Paw in my youth) owned a WD, at least one WC, 2 Bs (one with a sickle bar mower seemingly a permanent fixture and the other alternating cultivators and a 2-man planting platform for tobacco seedling transplanting) and my favorite Model G with the manual quadrant-raised front and rear cultvators. My cousin and I could easily pop wheelies by letting the clutch out quickly. (Please! Do not try this at home!) Our 70-pound physiques could not counter-balance that rear engine and Grandpa didn't employ the optional weight which mounts over the steering gear (I didn't know that part even existed until a couple of years ago when I saw one on a show tractor) What a great view of the row this little tractor offered the driver! It was a nearly perfect cultivator rig and many local owners considered it a must for raising tobacco. I think that's why so few have the plows or other available attachments. Sadly, most of the tractors were destroyed in an arson barn fire around 1970.

We recently brought it in town to sell it and the motor is froze up. Can we break this motor loose by squirting some oil into the cylinders and replacing the plugs. Please I need your help with this for we are selling it for my mom to pay bills off. Thank you.

It was originally on steel, it has a very small gas tank up by the radiator and a large kerosene tank near the driver. It has the "side blaster" manifold. Jerry VerSteegh wrote on Tuesday, July 15, 2003 (PDT):My father bought his first tractor, a WC, in 1936. My mother said I took my first step the day dad brought home the new tractor. My dad farmed all his life with what was intended as a temporary barn. When he bought the WC his father said, "You won't be needing so many horses now, so you don't need a fancy barn either." I started driving the WC before I was strong enough to start it with the hand crank. I was a tall, skinny kid and could just barely reach the clutch. I remember the hand brake handles had been welded several times, because occasionally when dad turned around at the end of the field he would jerk back on the hand brake with enough force that the handle would break off. I know it originally came with steel wheels, but he soon put on rubber tires. We used to pull an old steel wheel behind the tractor to smooth out the gravel in the driveway. When dad bought a brand new WD, I thought it was the finest piece of machinery ever invented. I loved to drive it, but cultivating corn was a nightmarish experience. I could never say awake on those hot june days. When I went away to college, dad bought a manure scoop for the front of the WD.

I also have a unstyled 1938 wc which we plan to build up to a pulling tractor.. there is nothing but other ac's that can hold up to our's when we pull in our weight classes now

I read the post by Patrick and thought of the "S" relating to being a standard tread of a WC since other makers use that designation at times for their various models. That was the first thing to cross my mind and it didn't register with me that I was talking about a WF when I posted that comment. My apologies to those that may have been mislead by that comment.

Patrick Graham wrote on Saturday, March 10, 2001 (PST): I recently purchased an old 1944 Allis Chalmers WC. I found it in a farmers barn and it hadn't been running in a couple of years. He told me it was a WD. After finding the serial number on the rear pumpkin I found it was a WC. It still runs but needs a little TLC. One rear rim is smaller than the other. It needs a new exhaust stack, but it runs fine. For 250.00 I think I found a great deal. I don't know what the letter "S" stamped after the serial number means. If anyone knows the answer please let me know. Thanks

Robert wrote on Wednesday, August 23, 2000 (PDT):Hope this helps out for all of the posts asking about the location of the serial number for the WC. It is on the rear of the rear end housing. It should be "WC" followed by the serial number. It is genarally not too difficult to find the location of the serial numbers. There is a smooth place on the rear end housing where the numbers were stamped. I take a wire brush with me when I am looking at one to buy so I can brush the rust off of the number to make it easier to read. Then wetting it down with a litle bit of water to wash off the dust created by the wire brush makes the numbers easier to read.

Now that my hopes of putting her back on the job are dashed (temp) I would like to put her into a reenactors hands. I can guarantee a fresh Engine O/H from pressure plate forward. Sounds so good..ha I have more into the sweetheart than I see as advertised selling prices, which makes it not so good for all of us. So why is say $2600.00 so out of sort for a WC? It was in perfect shape! put in new oil and fuel and 2nd crank of the crank it came to life. It is all original except now has a 8 volt battery and live hydrolics off the front crank pully. I am getting ready to repaint it this month. I found a place close that had original decals. I also have a WD45 that I am restoring I do love that ORANGE!!!!!

It came with the pull starter beside the choke. Both front and rear wheel are solid. My dad has it now. It needs a good restoration...someday.

RUN A WIRE FROM THE REAR LUG OF THE ALT. TO THE AMP GUAGE, FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GUAGE TO THE + SIDE OF THE BATTERY. ALSO TO MAKE THE ALT CHARGE AT LOW RPM, RUN ANOTHER WIRE TO THE "A" PLUG IN CONNECTION ON THE ALT. HOOK THIS WIRE UP TO + 12V & A SWITCH. WHEN ITS RUNNING TURN THE SWITCH ON TO PUT 12V TO THE "A" PLUG TO EXCITE THE ALT & IT WILL CHARGE.

Hal wrote on Tuesday, July 13, 1999 (PDT):I have a 1948 WC which I have rebuilt the engine and electical system on. I recently put a muffler on in place of the straight pipe. I got tired of wearing ear plugs. It purrs like a kitten now. I have the original seat on it but the back is missing which makes it real easy to step up on. Also, my WC has an aftermarket set of foot brakes on it. I can either use the hand brake or the foot brake.
