Problem is, its 2 hours away from my house and all i have to tow it with is my half ton with a car hauler. my question is; Does anyone know ballpark the weight of this tractor I believe the safe working load of the trailer is around 6000lbs. I have until spring to pick it up, thanks.

Randy Hobbs wrote on Wednesday, January 12, 2011 (PST):I grew up on the fender of dads MM M5. I m not sure what year model, 1960 or 1962. His was lpg, 3 pt hitch and had the round wide front axle. I remember the high/low torque lever on the right side near the right and left brake pedals. I just wished I could finde a 1/64 scale model of this same tractor.

Andy Brubaker wrote on Thursday, October 18, 2007 (PDT):ya we got an m5 on our dairy farm we still use it quite a bit its a little workhorse ive only been on one m5 that has the m5 rear end the one we have has an m670 rear end because the original went bad...so we made the 670 an irrigation pump and kept the rear end for the m5 it runs just as great!

People used to come to the farm just to see it work.I now have a M670 super and will be purchasing a G-1000 vista soon. MMs are the only tractor that I want on my farm

Tony Brinkmann wrote on Saturday, April 13, 2002 (PDT):Having driven M5's as main tractors for many years I have grown to repect them for their toughness and reliability. In Australia I have only seen the standard frontend model, we have two, both 1961 models, one has a FEL (locally made) this was put on in 1980, and still does an enormous amount of work for a tractor 41 years old. It does about 500 hours a year, has at least had two engine rebuilds and three amplitorc reconstructions. I feel that the FEL has contributed to undue wear and tear on amplitorc! Total hours for this tractor is in excess of 16,000, but is soon to be made redundant and thus suitably pensioned off. The other M5 is as bought, no cab, no three point linkage, and no repaint, and is in spendid show condition, it has done about 6,000 hours, and does very few now.

Harry Case wrote on Thursday, November 23, 2000 (PST):I worked on a farm in Grundy County Iowa in 1967, employer had a Massey 44 Special, Allis wd45, Allis 190xt, and a Moline M5. This was my favorite, it would pull a 4x16 plow five mph and the amlitorque was as smooth as silk and never gave us any problems. This was one bullet proof tractor! When we were shelling corn the M5 was pulling a big dryer, a 500 gal. propane tank was attached to the M5's gas tank and we ran non stop for 7 days and nights without a break. When we finally shut her down to check the it was still on the full mark. They don't make them any tougher than that! That's what I remember about the M5 Minnnemo.

Ralph Sprenger wrote on Monday, September 11, 2000 (PDT):I have two M5's, both 1962 Diesels. One needs to be rebuilt (next year's project) but the other one is in great shape (shedded all it's life). I used to drive these when I was a young lad on the farm out in western Canada....all I need now is the farm to go with it. The M5 has always been my favourite trator...lot's of horsepower for the size. I would really like to see all the M5 owners get together sometime...maybe next year at one of the shows...any interest out there?

It is a 1960 propane with a narrow front end that we have done some internal work to. We really like Moline tractors because of universal engine parts that can be intrechanged to develop big h.p. I am going to add a turbo over the winter and hope to have approx. 300 - 350 h.p.

Doug Adams wrote on Monday, March 20, 2000 (PST):My dad bought one of these tractors new in 1962, I believe that he paid about $2200.00 for the tractor and plow. I used that tractor a lot when I was growing up, it was our main tractor until about 1970 when he bought a new International. Minneapolis-Moline was no longer available! The tractor lasted real well with I believe one rebuild on the engine. The tractor developed 65 HP on the dyno, we had another that we bought used and it got 70 HP on the dyno. The book called for 59 HP on that tractor but both of ours were over that. The tractor we bought new is now retired to just pulling a baler and a few other odds and ends.

Dave Sapp wrote on Tuesday, September 28, 1999 (PDT):For Tom Martin; Keep the transmission oil changed every year to avoid wear to the Ampli-Torque in low range. If it becomes worn it will growl in low range. HP can be from low 70's to upper 80's depending on what heads and pistons you have.
