John Deere Disc, JD RW Disc, Rwa Disk

I believe this is a John Deere RW disc. The blade spacing is 7-1/8 inch and there are nine blades (16 inch diameter) on each spindle. I think that makes it a 10 ft model and was probably made between 1955 and 1962. I took off some mud scrapers to work on them, so a few are missing in the picture. I bought this from a neighbor for 125 without a hydraulic cylinder. I found a 4x8 cylinder at an auction (20) now works fine. Ive been told that a 3x8 cylinder will also work fine. It is very heavy for my 31 hp 4wd Kubota tractor but it does a good job for my one acre sweet corn patch. I suppose it would work best on a 50-60 hp tractor. According to 'Mike' another YTmag poster, '...the RW was introduced about 1955. It had a 7 1/8' blade spacing. It was superceded somewhere around 1962 by the RWA, which is pretty much the same only with 8 1/2' spacing and bearings in the gangs instead of sleeves.
