Tractor runs over farmer 8/19/2003 12;34 PM By; News 14 Carolina CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A west Mecklenburg County farmer was rushed to the hospital after being run over by his own tractor Tuesday. The accident happened just after 9 a.m. at 75-year-old Grady Rushing's farm on Garrison Road. Family members told police that Rushing, who is a double amputee, was just starting to mow the grass when the tractor veered into his parked golf cart, then the back of his home. Rushing was run over by the back wheels and part of the mower, but not the blade. 'He started the tractor, and apparently when he started it, he was not on it yet,' said Capt. Andy Leonard with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. 'It went forward and ran over him.' Rushing was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center suffering from chest injuries.
