Air Cleaner Or Pre Heater Intake Manifold?

These came out of an old machinery dealer shed, no idea what they were for, appear to be some kind of air mixing chamber, made of light pot metal casting, opening about 3' dia. and they slip together on a center pin and appear to have three machine screwholes around the outside of each section as is they fastened inside a sheetmetal jacket or bracket of some kind?
