i'm making pegs. i would have a old black locast log and cut one foot pieces out of the log. you'd try to use the stump or at least a piece from the very bottom of the log. Thats were most of the resin is in the log. I then layed out a 1' grid and would split that with a steel fro, i'd split it into 1'X1' sticks. Picking through them to get about 300. Then we made a stave chair, i sit in this and it holds the peg as i draw it down to size with a draw knife . This was good on my back too LOL
