Ford 4000 Diesel

With no warning or previous noise, the old ford started squealing and it felt like the drive line was seizing up. I shut her down and was sure she had spun a bearing. Went to take it apart, and found that the bolt holding the pulley to the crankshaft had worked loose and forced itself against the back end of the axle support shaft. Had to cut the bolt with a recipricating saw to remove the axle housing as the bolt head had gaulted itself to the support shaft. I could not break the bolt head loose from the shaft with a 3lb. sledge. Will have to wash it off with the torch. I think the mechanice who worked on this tractor before, used anti-sieze on the bolt, as opposed to locktite. Submitted by Bob R, from MT
