Ih Wide Front - Steering Arm

We bought this wide front this summer. We fited it to our 686 diesel. It originally came off of a 460 gas. These arms are FACTORY!!!! The only problem is that we can't find out what purpose the curved arm served. Could it make it turn shorter? None of the older guys from the IH dealerships in the area have seen anything like them. The guy we bought it from said he had the same style arms on his IH 1206, but we didn't ask to look. It steers really good though. Any help will be appreciated.
