Bought the John Deere30 on the Internet for 200 in 2001. I live in Ark and had to pick it up in Michigan. I have used it 2 years for wheat on my farm in the Arkansas Ozarks. I had to rebuild the cutter bar. All the parts are available at John Deere. I found that the generic parts in shrink wrap at the local tractor supply work good to and much cheaper than John Deere The previous owner tried to run it after it had been stored in a barn for 30 years without cleaning out the huge rats nest on the straw rack, busted the grain conveyor chain. Which is #45 chain, which has not been made in about 20 years. Found some new chain at a tractor salvage 1 a link!! Replaced one belt on the grain elevator. Replaced the trailing elevator chain and paddles ordered parts from local John Deere Had to replace the trailing auger bearing at the top as the rats eat the seal out of it (sealed bearing) Local John Deere Some one had swiped the control arm that raises and lowers the reel. I disassemble the complete unit replaced all the bushings (local IBT bearing dealer, as John Deere wanted WAY to much for simple brass bushing) Constructed a new arm in my shop using pictures and parts manual. Rebuilt the grain auger for the hopper tank. Again replaced all the brass bushing using the local bearing dearer. The bushing for the bottom end of the auger was gone and the casting was worn into. The auger shaft was worn. I built up the casting with nickel rod and machined a round hole. Then turned the shaft down to clean and straighten. Then made a new brass 'hat' bushing to match the casting and shaft on my metal lathe. One mans idea of 'field ready' and my ideas are very much different. I have a Scour Keen off a AC Allcrop that I have rebuilt. Found that John Deere used opposite rotation than AC and had to do some extreme modification to reverse the rotation. Couldn't find a John Deere Scour Klean Submitted by Wes Gordon, from OK |
