Massey Harris? Electric Winch

I picked this up in a trade. I took a picture of the winch laying on its side hoping I could get the casting number. It has GX 47 as a casting mark in the very center of the photo. Is this a Massey Harris mark? What would this winch be used for or mounted on? It seems to work good on 12 volts but I think it is really a 6 volt because it moves too fast on 12v. Thanks for any information.
