Associated Press; February 2000 Duluth MN A new 105,000 dollar backhoe that was being used to try to ease flooding slid into Horeshoe Lake and will probably stay there until next winter. When the ground freezes, a crane will be able to retrieve the machine, owned by St. Louis County. 'We may be able to sell parts off it for salvage,' county engineer Dick Hanson Said.'We could have easily lost a person and not just a machine in this accident. We have insuarance for the machine.' This photo was bootlegged from one of the first people on the scene, all copies of other photos have disapeared as the powers that be tried to hush up the screwup. Somehow the AP got a hold of it and it made the news.
As far as I know, a private contractor got it out for salvage in the winter of '01-'02
